Design and Construction of Solar Home System (SHS) with Application of Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) as a Source of Electrical Energy for Residential Homes

Abstract
Kupang Regency is one of the 22 regencies in the Province of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). Data from the Central Statistics Agency of Kupang Regency in 2020 recorded that the electricity electrification ratio of Kupang Regency was 73%. However, there are still 6 out of 24 sub-districts with an electrification ratio of less than 50%. The data also shows that 31 villages spread across 9 out of 24 sub-districts in Kupang Regency still do not have access to energy from the State Power Plant (PLN). This study offers a solution to utilize electrical energy from renewable energy sources, namely the sun, by designing and creating a Solar Power Plant in homes (solar home system) as an alternative energy source when there is a power outage by PLN. This system will work automatically using the Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) when a power outage occurs. In addition, this system can be prioritized as the main source of electrical energy in serving the load when the load is lower than the capacity of the PLTS. The test results show that there is a saving in electricity consumption from PLN of 940 Wh or with a percentage of 77.4%. PLN will serve the load from 14.00-24.00 and the rest is taken over by the Solar Power Plant.
