Abstract
Wind energy is an alternative source of renewable energy that can be converted to electricity by wind turbines. This paper presents a prototype small wind turbine stand alone mode. The prototype has vertical axis rotor with airfoil blades and applied to low wind speed 2.5 metre per second. Design of this system including battery charger unit by LM350 as a dc regulator. Result of field test shows that output power is 38 Watt compared from calculation 50.33 Watt according to sweep area of blades. This prototype of small wind turbine designed to battery charging and dc home lighting in remote area, specially for traditional fisherman who settled in the seaside areas.
